Dippin Into Jack Frost Cafe

Dippin dots and shaved iced: what more could one ask for? This unique dessert concept became reality this year at Jack Frost Cafe across City Hall in Richmond, BC.

The exterior of the store was super open, simple and bright with floor to ceiling windows embellished with snowflake decals. From the outside, the the interior of the store is very visible and showcases Jack Frost’s clean and open space. Inside, the blue powder walls add a “dreamy” vibe to the establishment. In addition, miniature DIY clouds and a small, pink neon sign give the place a homey and welcoming feeling.

I had the popular item “Cotton Candy Jack Frost Classic”. This bowl of cuteness was covered in a small mountain of dippin dots and what rested on the top was a small raspberry macaron with the Jack Frost logo printed. The macaron was the perfect amount of texture and felt intentional. It was more than just a cute decoration to finish the look of the dessert but it was also complimented the dessert tremendously. The mountain of pink and blue cream bits covered a mountain of shaved ice. One would think that the mountain of pink and blue would taste like super artificial cotton candy flavouring; however, it tasted perfectly sweet. Within the dippin dots was strawberry cream dots that complimented and contested the dessert with its tartiness. Underneath the dippin dots was a mountain of shaved iced drizzled with condensed milk and layered with strawberries. These copious amounts of flavour did not only taste exquisite but also invited me to dig deeper into every level of this dish. It was like a story within a dessert where I had to keep going to find out if there was something different or more exciting. From all these details of the dessert, I could tell this dessert was well thought out and I can see why this dessert is one of their classics and a customer favourite.

Until next time,
